We are interested in recordings of the first TV Singapura broadcast in 1963, pre-1980s family films/home movies of Singapore, pre-1990s television commercials, as well as videos featuring leisure activities of yesteryear and/or disappearing local landmarks and landscapes. Your contributions will go a long way to fill the gaps in our national collections, and ensure that these precious recordings are preserved and accessible for future generations.
Television was introduced in Singapore on 15 February 1963. Television Singapura’s first broadcast included a speech by then-Minister for Culture S. Rajaratnam; TV Looks at Singapore, a 15-minute documentary on the role and potential impact of broadcast television in the lives of Singaporeans; and a newsreel in English. We are interested to collect these and other early local television programmes from the 1960s.
